AMD at the Advancing AI 2026 summit in San Francisco on July 22 will unveil new EPYC Venice with Zen 6 architecture. The demonstration will focus on AI workload performance, where the company promises a significant speedup over current EPYC chips.
Zen 6 Architecture and Performance
The new EPYC Venice processors will offer 256 cores, an increase from the current 192 cores. AMD claims AI workloads will be up to 1.7x faster, with part of the improvement coming from architectural changes, not just the higher core count.
Technological Details
The chips are built on TSMC's 2nm process, delivering higher performance and efficiency. Venice introduces a new SP7 socket and support for 16-channel memory with up to 1.6 TB/s bandwidth. For CPU-GPU communication, PCIe 6 support is integrated, which will be especially useful when paired with Instinct MI455X in Helios rack systems.
What This Means for Consumers
Venice is aimed at data centers, but the Zen 6 architecture will also come to desktop Ryzen processors. These are expected to have fewer cores, higher clocks, and more cache, which gamers will particularly appreciate. However, due to memory shortages, their launch is expected in early 2027, not in 2026 as originally anticipated.
